Part I, Results of the 2024 Competition
Results for Part I of the University of Maryland High School Mathematics Competition are sent to the administrators/teachers at each school. If you are a student, please contact your teacher to ask about the results. If you are a teacher and have not received the results, please contact Dr. Ebrahimian at ebrahimi@umd.edu as soon as possible.
Part I problems and solutions are posted on our website. Some video solutions are posted on Youtube.
- A total of 1254 students from 95 schools took the exam.
- The scores range from a low of 12 to a high of 140. The median score is 74/150. The cutoff for invitation to Part II is a score of 92.
- A total of 246 students qualified for Part II.
Part II of the UMD High School Math Competition will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Part II is only open to those who qualified and will be held at your school. Part II will consist of 5 problems requiring written solutions. Each problem will be worth 30 points. Past contests can be found here.

Registration is Now Open
Registration for the 2024 University of Maryland High School Math Competition is now open.
If you are a high school student interested in participating, please contact a math teacher at your school and ask them to register your school. We do not register individual students. If you are a teacher and would like to register, please contact us from your institution email address and I will provide you with instructions. If you are being homeschooled or your school does not participate contact us and we will accommodate you.
Dates for the 2024 UMD High School Math Competition
The 45th University of Maryland High School Math Competition will be held on the following days:
Part I: Wednesday, October 23, 2024, 1:00 – 3:00 pm;
Part II: Wednesday, December 4, 2024, 1:00 – 3:00 pm.
Please mark your calendar. Registration starts in late August/early September.
Interested students from Maryland and District of Columbia must contact a teacher at their schools and ask them to participate in our competition.
Teachers who would like to register their schools must contact us for instructions.
Awards Ceremony
The awards ceremony for the 44th University of Maryland High School Math Competition is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served at 9:30 a.m. The location of the ceremony is Room 3206 in the Mathematics Building (William E. Kirwan Hall) at the University of Maryland, College Park.
An official invitation letter was emailed to all the winners. Winners who are able to attend should RSVP by sending an email to ebrahimi@umd.edu and mention how many people will be attending.
