Part I Results

Results for Part I of the University of Maryland High School Mathematics Competition are sent to the administrators at each school. If you are a student, please contact your teacher to ask about the results. If you are a teacher and have not received the results, please contact Dr. Ebrahimian at math-comp@umd.edu as soon as possible.

Part I problems and solutions are posted on our website.

  • A total of 1234 students from 78 schools took the exam.
  • The scores range from a low of 12 to a high of 146. The median score is 70/150. The cutoff for invitation to Part II is a score of 88.
  • A total of 228 students qualified for Part II.

Part II of the UMD High School Math Competition will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Part II is only open to those who qualified and will be held at your school. Part II will consist of 5 problems requiring written solutions. Each problem will be worth 30 points. Past contests can be found here.

2022 Part I

Instructions and test material for Part I of the 2022 University of Maryland High School Math Competition have been sent to school administrators on file for registered schools. If you have not received them in your email, please contact Dr. Ebrahimian at math-comp@umd.edu as soon as possible.

Registration for 2022 competition is open

Teachers with interested students should contact Dr. Ebrahimian at math-comp@umd.edu in order to receive registration instructions.

Interested students should contact a teacher at their school in order to register their school. Students will have to register with their teachers.

2022 Competition

The 43rd University of Maryland High School Math Competition will be held on the following days:

Part I: Wednesday, October 19, 2022, 1:00 – 3:00 pm;
Part II: Wednesday, November 30, 2022, 1:00 – 3:00 pm.

Please mark your calendar. Registration starts in late August.

Interested students from Maryland and District of Columbia must contact a teacher at their schools and ask them to participate in our competition.

Teachers who would like to register their schools must contact us for instructions.

2021 Awards Ceremony

Date: April 23, 2022, 10-11:30 am, Refreshments will be served at 9:30 am

Location: Room 1410, Physics Building, University of Maryland, College Park. This building is right across the street from Regents Drive Garage.

Parking: Enter Regents Drive Garage into Google Maps (https://goo.gl/maps/S52zemFtzJ4L95dy8). Check the signs carefully to avoid getting parking tickets. For more parking options please refer to this map. Any of the permit spaces in the green areas should be available, unless there are signs.

Directions: After parking your car in RDG, exit onto the Regents Drive. Right across the street from RDG you will be able to enter the Physics Building. The door you would want to use is right across the street from Fieldhouse Drive.

Results of Part I have been announced

Results of the 2021 University of Maryland High School Mathematics Competition have been sent to the teachers who administered the tests in each school. Teachers who did not receive the results should contact me as soon as possible. Students should contact their teacher to receive their result.

Part I Test Material Sent

If you are a teacher that registered your school for the University of Maryland High School Math Competition, you should have received an email from math-comp@umd.edu this morning at around 8:30 AM. If you have not received this email contact Dr. Ebrahimian as soon as possible.

Registration deadline extended

We have extended the registration deadline. Interested schools can register today or tomorrow, October 14, 2021. Registration must be done by the Contest Administrator of the participating school. Individual students register with their schools, not us.
